Senator Hackworth Announces Re-Election Campaign in Virginia State Senate District 5
January 5, 2022 (Richlands, VA) - Senator Travis Hackworth announced he is seeking re-election to the Virginia State Senate in District 5. Senator Hackworth has represented nearly half of Southwest Virginia since decisively winning a special election in 2020.
In his first session, Senator Hackworth earned rookie of the year after securing a $3,000 per year pay increase for Virginia’s deputies, earning the Industrial Strength Leadership Award from the VA Manufacturing Association, and hitting the ground running for his district. In the 2023 session, Senator Hackworth will carry a life at conception bill to protect the unborn and will patron multiple public safety and pro-business bills for Governor Youngkin in the Senate.
As a former Tazewell County supervisor, Senator Hackworth remains passionate about ensuring local officials and business owners have a voice in Richmond through his office.
“I remember what it was like to constantly have unfunded mandates that we didn’t have the local funds to pay for. As a businessman, I’ve also experienced the unnecessary burdens a bloating government can cause on small businesses. I’m running for re-election because I am proud to fight for the everyday working Virginian that needs a voice for them in Richmond. We are proud of the start we have had, but there is much more work to be done. My top priorities will be improving the economy, protecting our liberties, and making sure Southwest Virginians continues to have strong voices fighting on their behalf in the General Assembly.”
Senator Hackworth’s new district includes all of Tazewell, Bland, Smyth, Giles, Radford, and Pulaski and parts of Wythe and Montgomery
