Travis Hackworth serves as the VA State Senator for District 5, representing all of Tazewell, Pulaski, Smyth, Giles, and and Bland Counties, all of Radford City and portions of Montgomery and Wythe Counties. Senator Hackworth has served Southwest Virginia since first elected in 2021.
He spent his early education years at Whitewood Elementary School in Buchanan County where he grew up. Travis then moved to Richlands Christian Academy, a private institution in Tazewell County where he distinguished himself as salutatorian for his graduation. He further pursued his studies in the construction field at Southwest VA Community College. Travis holds a Class A Contractor license in VA, West VA, and TN.
In 1998, he founded his first Real Estate and Construction business, marking the start of his entrepreneurial journey. Travis has successfully established a range of ventures which are still operating today. These include businesses in construction, real estate holdings in three states (both residential and commercial), compounding and infusion pharmacy, custom wood and cabinetry manufacturing, interior flooring and design center, auto sales locations in two states, and investment groups.
Travis has been happily married to his wife Angel since 1993, and they are proud parents to four children and grandparents to five granddaughters, with hopes of a growing family in the future.
An active participant in his church community since his adolescence, Travis has spent years teaching Sunday School, ministering, playing music, and leading youth programs.
Aside from his professional and community obligations, Travis has a rich variety of hobbies. He is an enthusiastic reader and an avid cook. He enjoys conceptualizing new construction projects, sharing his personal experiences with budding entrepreneurs, managing his "hobby farm," and exploring new locations and cultures alongside his wife. One of his most cherished traditions is gathering his family around the dinner table every Sunday, a practice that brings him great joy and relaxation.
